Today is my day to issue a challenge here at Memorable Seasons and I chose to challenge our members to a Journaling challenge.

I always write something on my layouts - what about you? Well for this challenge I am asking you to REALLY write on your layout. You can hand write or use the computer, but you must include a lot of journaling - really put your heart into this one.

Hello February & a "lovely" reveal

It's always so exciting the first day of the month! We the DT gals had some seriously good stuff to work with this month and I thought a would share a bit with you from each of us.

First up Joni--she got some MME love pps-great stuff and she ROCKED it!

Look how darn cute that twirly twine is!

Then we have some more lovey dovey stuff from the great artist Audrey working with Crate Paper's Paper HEart line

This one just melts my heart and that use of the negative punch is FAB!!!

Next up is some more sweetness with our new girl Wendy who got to work with the Lily Bee Head over Heels line. How perfect that she scrapped her love of her life.

The cluster of course is my FAVORITE part-cuz if you know me I love a good cluster-LOL!

And then we have Miss Sally with some more MME product-the Kraft Fundays--ck out the cute button.

And to think I gave these pps away in a rak-now becuz of Sally I want them back-LOL!

Raechelle our other newest DT gal pal got the beautiful Bo Bunny Snowfall line. I bet if the Bo Bunny people saw her work they would wanna steal her away from us!

I definitely want these papers now-my checkbook will thank you later Raechelle-LOL!

And then there is me--I got the Echo Park Yours Truly line. Fun Valentines day pps-but of course I didnt have to use them for that. So I had fun working with these colors (so not the norm for me as a mom of boys)

Well there you have it for day one of February and trust me it will just keep getting better-we have lots more to share throughout the month.

Welcome to our New DT gals

So in case you forgot or didnt know...We had a DT call recently. And WOW at the submissions-there are some very talented ladies out there in our scrappy land. So after long talks and lots of looking--we found not only 1 but 2 girls to join us. And we want you to meet them...

First up is Raechelle

Hello! I'm Raechelle (pronounced Rachel) Bellus. I am married, a mom/full-time step-mom of 6 beautiful children ages 12-22 as well as 4 cats and 2 dogs. I am a proud Navy mom of two girls and am so proud of them for serving their country. I live in Spokane Valley, WA and am a part-time cashier for a large retail chain. I also enjoy reading, playing games and working puzzles. I am thankful that my husband is supportive and encouraging of my passion for playing with paper.
I have been scrapping about 10 years now, and like to create a little bit of everything. Playing with paper is my release and I enjoy sharing this creativity with others. It still amazes me how I can take some photos, sheets of pretty paper, and a handful of elements and create something that I, along with my children can enjoy over and over. There is nothing like seeing that smile light up their faces whenever they see the newest layout I have created of them, for them. It just one more little way that I can share my love for them and it truly makes my heart happy.
I am honored to be a part of the Memorable Seasons team and I am able to inspire you to create.

My name is Wendy and I have been married for 12 years now. My hubby and I have 5 children ranging from 9-10 months. I am a SAHM and a homeschooler, I tutor math on the side and play violin. I have been scrapbooking since my first child was born in 2002 and have grown in my love for the hobby. I love to document my families many memories and blessings and I enjoy having something that is so fulfilling to me but my family can enjoy also. It doesn't hurt that I have always adored the smell of paper and the joy of picking a new pen!

Hello Ladies and welcome to 2012. We are very excited for the new year. Time for new things and to get that scrappy mojo back in gear. So with that we have decided to host a little something new for you this year. Just to get your mojo flowing again after the busy holiday season.

We are holding a sketch-a-thon! Yup, one whole month of inspiration for you and of course there will prizes too!
Here are all the details:

In January, we (the DT) will be hosting a SKETCH-A-THON!!!
Each weekday starting Monday January 2nd - Friday Jan 27th, a new sketch will be posted.
So that's every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!!!

You'll have the weekends to catch up and also that last few days of Jan.
(last sketch Friday 1/27, month ends Tuesday 1/31).

Now I bet you are thinking 20 sketches not to worry girls. We just wanna get your mojo back in gear after the holiday season. You can do as many or as few as you like!
For every sketch you complete, you get your name in the monthly prize drawing for a GC to the store.
You can do the same sketch multiple times, however you only get your name in once for each sketch/challenge.

New Design Team members search

is holding a Design Team search until Dec 31. A decision will be made by Jan 5.

Memorable Seasons is an on-line scrapbook store, gallery and message board dedicated to documenting all the seasons in your life. We are searching for one more designer to complete our team.

To apply, please email the following to momawhite99@yahoo.com
1.links to your online gallery, blog and/or resume, if available
2. your full contact information: name, phone number, email address, and mailing address. Include your message board name if you sign up for the gallery under a name other than your given name.
3. a short paragraph or two about why you want to be one of our designers and what you would add to our team
4. a list of your current scrapbooking commitments – other DT work, etc
5. and then attach the following items

photos or scans of 3 total projects to include
• your favorite layout
• one card
• one altered item or an additional card
We prefer those who are not currently on a design team affiliated with a store. Manufacturer, sketch site or kit clubs with no stores attached are okay. Additional details can be found here.

Design team members will receive a monthly kit sometime after the 10^th of the month. You are required to create and share at least 4 projects using mostly the items in your kit on the 1^st of each month. One of those 4 projects must be a card. You will also be required to choose a layout of the week, issue a DT challenge and post to the blog on a rotating basis with the other DT members. Other requirements include active participation on the message board, on line crops, occasional happy hour duties, creating a layout based on a monthly sketch and any other promotions that may come up. Term is 6 months with an option to extend by 6 more months and a limit of 1 year. If selected to join our team your initial 6 month term will begin in Feb 2012.

Do you want the Guest DT spot????

Hello Ladies,

We are gonna start a little something new here at MS. We wanna have a contest for a Guest DT spot and anyone is welcome to give it a shot! We have a challenge for you to complete and we the DT will take a vote for the winner. What will you do with that? Well you will receive a DT kit for which you will need to complete at least 3 layouts and a card or altered item for your debut. You will be highlighted for a weekend in your honor of winning the contest and it will be your turn to issue one of our monthly challenges. You will need to join our forum if you arent already a member, join our discussions and take part in the challenges for the month and most important we like to share the love in our glorious gallery.

Sound like fun? So here's the challenge for the Guest DT spot for January 2012.

We would like to see your take on this sketch created by our very one Kristin. Feel free to use whatever product and techniques of your liking-show us your talents girls.

Rules of our Guest Designer Contest:
1. One (1) layout entry per person.

3. Your layout must be NEWLY CREATED for this contest and not posted elsewhere during the contest period. After the contest is over, you can post your creation wherever you'd like.

Time to journal it

Hello ladies, with Thanksgiving quickly approaching I thought I would make this months journaling challenge quick and simple. Now remember ladies as much as we all love scrapping and creating beautiful designs-its the story or words about the picture that are very important to those that we are leaving the creations for.

So for this months challenge I want you to journal about something or someone you are grateful for.
THAT'S it!

I used my Kit for this month. When I saw the tree and that it was only half of a tree. I decided to use these photos of my Uncle from my mom's side of the family and journal about his & my dads relationship and how strong it still is even though my mom is gone.

Remember you have til 11/30 at midnight to get your creation loaded to the gallery and linked back here to qualify for the monthly drawing. Cant wait to see what you create girls!

Christmas Craft Week 3

A month or so ago I came across a darling project from Leslie Ashe. I decided I must give it a try. Usually I'm one that sees fun ideas but rarely make them. Since we are sharing a Christmas project each Wednesday from now until Christmas to help inspire you, it was the perfect excuse for me to give this a try. So I pulled out last years Echo Park line and got to work. The trick is to figure out the order of your paper and then once you have the length figured out, cut it at that length and the width is 2". Roll up your paper gluing it to seal the paper tube closed and once you have it all laid out the way you want just glue them down to the canvas. I created a dimensional star and popdotted it for the top and then added buttons and brads for my ornaments. I decided I wanted to add a frame using one of my border punches. So if you're like me and see crafts you like but rarely make, give this a try. If you create a project(not a layout or card) using rolled paper your name will go into the monthly draw.

Sketch Weekend!

This month we're going to shake things up a bit with the sketch challenge. We thought it would be fun to have a Happy Hour Sketch on Friday night, November 18th starting at 8 p.m.CST. We'll have a few games, chat and of course get to play with Kristin's fabulous sketch! We thought we'd make a party of it. So mark your calendars. At the end of the hour, one lucky lady with receive a fabulous gift certificate from the store.

Now what about those that can't make it? Well...you'll still have 2 more perks to take advantage of. If you can't make it during our wonderful Happy Hour, but can complete the sketch by Sunday, November 20 at midnight CST, then you will have your name go into our monthly drawing twice. How does that sound? That way you'll still have an advantage by playing along during our sketch weekend.

And if you still aren't able to get it done by the end of the weekend...no worries...just get it complete by the end of November and you will still get your name into the monthly drawing.

We'll be sure and put out several hints ahead of time to let you know how many photos to pull as well as any additional items you might need so you can be as ready as possible. Sally's Recipe Challenge

It's my turn to issue a challenge to you. I thought with it being close to Thanksgiving, what better to challenge you with but a recipe challenge. Of course no food is required for this recipe, just a little time and a few scrappy supplies. So with that in mind, here is your recipe to follow:

* a scalloped edge

* 2 photos

* at least 3 leaves (they can be any size/type you want)

* a banner

* a pinch of sewing/stitching

You may add any additional ingredients you'd like but you must use the basic ingredients. Here is what I created using this recipe:

8 weeks of Christmas Craft Cheer

So ladies Christmas is creeping up quickly

We thought we would help you girls out with some quick crafty ideas for the season. Starting today and following along once a week til Christmas, we will be posting a Christmas Craft along with instructions and tutorial. It could be a gift idea, decoration ya just never know.

Our guest Dt member came up with the idea so we are gonna let her start us off today. Then starting next week we will post our inspiration for you every Wednesday til Christmas. We hope that you will be inspired by this and maybe it will help with the stress of the holiday season for you in some way!

Tami's Strip it Down challenge

Hello ladies. So we have been seeing alot of work being done with strips of paper or borders as some like to call them. And in my kit this month I got this sheet of paper

and also this set of border stickers

so I thought how economical it would be to just those on a layout-and fun too I might add.

So I cut out a few of the strips straight, I also cut out the bottom border with the owls and fussy cut them, added a few from the sticker sheet and what a fun colorful combo I ended up with. And just for an extra added touch I scrunched some of the strips, angle cut one, and cut the ends of one with my deco scissors. So other than the base of my layout I only had to cut into one sheet of paper for my circle-the rest was from the two items listed above---NOW that is stretching your papers girls.

So hopefully I have inspired you today incase you are ever wondering what to do with that one sheet that usually shows up in a collection. Now let me see you strip it down and give me a layout for this challenge!

Fall Color challenge

YIPEEE It's my turn for a challenge. And since it's my favorite time of year. I decided to focus on the colors of fall...

BLUE, GREEN & ORANGE

This week I want you to create a layout using those colors. Here's what I came up with using some OCtober Afternoon Campfire mixed with some oldies from my stash featuring Cosmo Mr Campy and Scenic Route. Also check out those accordian flowers, they are from the new American Crafts Nightfall line. That is new in the store-I dont usually get pps from AC but trust me you will WANT these. They are great quality, very versatile and just soo darn cute! Here's a link to them in the store

Now onto my layout

And this month we are focusing on cards I did a card also using those same colors. I have seriously been trying to use up some stash - A girl's gotta have an excuse to shop right. So I used some MME Abbey ROad for my card. You two can make a card and this will get your name in twice for our monthly drawing.

NOw get scrappin and load it to the gallery with a link into the challenge thread before 10/31 at midnight to qualify for our monthly prize drawing.

October Guest Designer~Sandy

We are lucky again this month to have another terrific scrapper and lady as our Guest Designer. PLEEZ WELCOME>>>
Sandy Liles.

Here's a wee bit about her

Name: Sandy Liles

How long you have been scrapping? Technically I started scrapping almost 16 years ago after having my oldest son. However I was never really into it that much because I was taught the CM way of scrapping and it didn't really appeal to me. I would just do it sporadically up until 2001 when I had my youngest son. I was a member of a parenting message board and several ladies were talking about scrapbooking and so I was reintroduced to it in a whole new way. I quickly became an addict and have been scrapping faithfully every since.

What is your favorite Manufacturer to work with? One of my all time favorite is MME. I LOVE all their stuff and can't get enough of it. However I am also drawn to Echo Park a lot lately. The colors are right up my alley and really suit me well.

What is your favorite technique? Definitely distressing. It seems I seldom do a LO without some sort of distressing.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Well let's see, I live in Alabama with my hubby of 17 years (although we have been together for 24 years!) and our three mostly wonderful children. I am fortunate enough to be a SAHM mom who loves to go to all my kids sporting events and other extra curricular activities (from XC running for Zach, Cheering for Becca and basketball for Blake). Although I am usually the positive supportive type, I have to admit this week I am on edge as Zach gets his drivers' license on Thursday and it sure does make a bundle of nerves.
I am also very active in my church. I am the Sunday school teacher for the babies-2 year olds, help my husband with AWANA, work with the children plays and help direct our VBS. I also am on the youth committee and count myself blessed to be able to work with the children and teens in the church.
I am also more of a listener than a talker. I love to people watch and I am content to just sit in the corner alone rather than socialize.

Tell us one funny thing about yourself: Hmm, let's see. One thing my kids love to tease me about is my uncanny fear of the things in the ocean. It's not the ocean (although I don't like swimming in water other than a swimming pool) but rather the creatures in the ocean. For example, Octopi really completely freak me out. And even when we see one at aquariums, I seriously start to hyperventilate and get the willys.

Hello! During this month, we are going to be focusing on cards. Now don't panic for those of you who "don't do cards". We are going to work at making our challenges friendly for both card-makers as well as those of you who like layouts. We'll be posting a challenge twice a week this month - each Tuesday and Thursday so check back often for more challenges.

To start things off this month, my challenge is a sketch challenge. I love a good sketch and when making cards, I do better with a sketch as my starting off point. I found this great one at Let's Scrap that is very versatile as it can be used for a layout or a card.

So my challenge to you is to use this sketch to create a layout, a card or both. If you choose to do both your name will go into the monthly drawing twice. Plus at the end of the month I will pick a name from those who have completed both and send a RAK to one winner.

Meet our Guest Designer for September

We would like to welcome our Guest Designer for September Tracy. She just recently won our Annual Last Scrapper Standing Contest thanks her wonderful work. So we asked her to be our Guest Designer for the month. So with that lets all get to know her better.

Name: Tracy Rhodes
How long you have been scrapping? I've been officially scrapping for 7 years when my sister gave me a scrapbooking kit as a graduation present. Though I've always kept albums with memorabilia in them since back in my days of drillteam in high school. Of course those were just the regular sticky photo albums filled with photos and and bits and pieces of memorbilia taped to the pages from different things we did.
What is your favorite Manufacturer to work with? Picking just one is really hard, but I guess I would have to go with Bo Bunny. Though Echo Park and Teresa Colliins are right up there. I told you one was hard to pick. I'm more interested in what the papers look like than who made them.
What is your favorite technique? Distressing! If I don't distress on a LO I end up being a bit disappointed with it and think if I had just ripped it up a little here or inked it there it would have added so much. Many times I will go back and add little tears or ink after everything is glued down, which can be difficult.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: My family and I live in East Texas, normally known for it's hot and humid weather though I think we may be turning into a desert. I've been married to my dh for 17 years and we have 3 not so little ones. Jacob is now 10 (and all into the pre-teen attitude), Austin is 6 (and as stubborn as I am), and Autumn is 4 (our little drama queen). I'm a SAHM but do work 2 days a week at my daughters Mothers Day Out.
Tell us one funny thing about yourself: I'm a fanatical baseball mom! I don't mean that in a bad way. You won't catch me yelling at the umpires or getting in the coaches business but you could say I get a little over excited at the games. I'm bouncing up and down all through the games and I'm a nervous wreck whenever Jacob is up to bat. I would imagine it is quite comical looking. I own two blingy shirts that say "baseball mom" on them.

This Week's Design Team Challenge

Hello ladies! I'm here with this week's challenge. I recently had a wonderful opportunity to go and spend some time in Hawaii on the island Oahu. It is so beautiful and peaceful there...I loved it! So with that amazing island still on my mind, I thought it would be fun to use it as inspiration for this week's challenge. When you think of Hawaii there are 3 main things we think of:
Surf, Sand, and Sun. So with that in mind, here is you challenge:
1. Surf: Use aqua as the main background color of your layout
2. Sand: Use kraft somewhere on your layout. It can be as cardstock like I did or as cardboard, as alphas, an accent, anything. I just want to see some kraft on your layout.
3. Sun: Add a little yellow. You can use a lot or a little, it's all up to you.
And lastly...one of my favorite things in Hawaii: flowers. They had gorgeous flowers everywhere. So
4. You need to add at least 3 different flowers on your layout.

That's it! Your photos don't have to be water/beach related, you just need to incorporate the above elements. Here is my layout using these elements. And of course, I had to use a photo of use in Hawaii.

Mark your Calendars now for our "Members Challenge Us" Crop on August 26-28th! In case you have not been with us before when we've had this online crop, YOU the members get to come up with the challenges for this crop! Here's how it works: anyone who presents a challenge (along with their newly created example to go with it) will be awarded points. You will receive additional points for every member who completes your challenge! You will also receive points for every challenge that you participate in! The person with the most points at the end is our big winner! Oh and you know that we can't have an online crop without lots of other prizes thrown in as well as fun games.

So what you need to do now is to think about what kind of challenge you want to do. Remember, you want lots of people to choose your challenge to participate in, so make it a good one! Once you have your idea, please PM me what you are planning so I can make a list and be sure that none of the challenges will duplicate each other. Then you will want to go ahead and do your example for the challenge. We will plan to list all the challenges on Friday, the 26th. Games will be played during that Friday-Sunday weekend and then you will have until that following Wednesday (the 31st) at midnight (CST) to complete and upload your layouts.

Impromptu Color Challenge

Hi ladies! It's Sally here. I thought with the LSS nearing the end, you might enjoy another challenge. I thought it would be fun to challenge you to use Jill's site colors/logo as our inspiration for a layout.

So your challenge is to use the colors orange, light aqua, dark aqua, lime green, and white to create a layout. You may add another nuetral such as black, cream, brown or even tan but try to keep the main focus of the layout on the above colors.

For those that complete this challenge by July 31st, your name will go into the monthly draw for a GC from Jill. I will also put those names into a drawing for a small RAK from me.

Last Scrapper Standing contest - week 5

Wow...can you believe that we're in week 5 of our "Last Scrapper Standing" contest??

Last Scrapper Standing-Week one CHallenge

Okay ladies we are off and running now. Do you wanna be the Last Scrapper STanding and hold that title for a year? Sure you do!

So here we go-This is Tami and I will be your hostess with the mostest this week.
This week we are gonna go "GAUDY & GREEN" of course with a twist.
If you know me already you know I love embellies and clusters-aka my gaudy. I also am a hoarder of lil treasures I find here and there-aka going green.

So here's my example for the week

What's the twist you say? Well if you are scrapping a themed photo like I have here of my son playing baseball-you CANNOT use themed papers. Or if you are using themed papers you CANNOT use a photo of a themed-type. Now this may seem a bit confusing-but you dont even have to use themed pps at all. I just want you ladies to think outta the box on this.
Here let me sum it up for you:
1. Embellie cluster (gaudy)
2. Recycled item (green)
3. No theme papers for a theme photo and no theme photo for a theme paper.

Now get to scrappin girls and remember you have until Friday @ midnight CST. to get linked up in our gallery to qualify for the vote.

Hey ladies-it's that time again!

Here's a little bit of a recap for you from last years contest and how it works. Each week one of our fabulous DT members will give you a challenge, you will have one week to complete the challenge. Then all of us will vote on the lo's that we feel best have interpreted the challenge. The top vote getters will continue on to the next week. Until the last 2 weeks where we the DT will vote for those to continue on until we have "The Last Scrapper Standing" and what does that mean? Seeing spots Challenge

Okay girls I know we all have oodles of journaling spots in our stash. Me personally I have a crazy addiction to those cute lil things and then most of the time I never use them. Well today I want you to USE THEM UP-but we arent gonna journal til the cows come home. We are gonna use them on our lo's as embellishments.

Here's my example for you--I used some Jillibean sprouts and just layered layered and layered them-HECK I almost used a whole package of them. And if you wanna make them go furthere-well cut 'em in half and you have double the fun!

Now lets see how you choose to use your journaling spots ladies. The requirements are very simple-just use up those journaling spots as embellishments of your choice-THATs IT! How many you ask well I gotta put a wee bit of requirement there-lets say no less than 3. Dont forget to post it here in this thread and explain how you used them and you will be entered in our monthly drawing.

Megan's DT Challenge: Shape Up

This is Megan and I am a little sad to be giving my last weekly challenge as a Design Team member. I have really enjoyed working with Jill and the other team members. I've enjoyed seeing the amazing layouts and inspiration that has been posted by all our board members on a regular basis. But don't worry...I'm not going anywhere...I'm just taking a break. :) So without further ado, here's my challenge...

For this week's Design Team challenge, I want you to shape up! :) LOL

No, really, the challenge is to hand-cut or die-cut a shape from paper and include that on your layout.

In my example, I used a piece of a die cut circle paper that I had sitting on my desk and it reminded me of a cloud. So then I drew some smaller cloud shapes on pattern paper and cut them out with scissors and attached them to my layout with foam squares.

I stamped the title, the stars, the border on either side of the photos and several words on the layout. My journaling is written on the back of the layout with all the details. The title was stamped on plain vellum with dark brown ink and I embossed it with some iridescent embossing powder...love the look this gave to the title.

You have until the end of May to complete this challenge to be entered into the random drawing.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for your layouts!

A review of Tim Holtz's Tissue Tape!!

Hi everyone! It's Jenny here and I'm reviewing the Tim Holtz tissue tape for you guys! When Telah asked me to choose a product that I had not worked with, this was one of the first things that came to mind.

Well, first off, it was a fabulous complement to the Glitz Designs "Love Games" papers that Jill sent...they were made for each other!!

The tape is really easy to use...it's thin and a little opaque...so that whatever you are putting it on still comes thru a bit.

I loved that it easily peels back off if you place it and don't like it.

I like that one roll of this stuff will probably go a long way! I only used little bits of it on the pages I made for the reveal, but am currently thinking it would make a nice frame around a picture or around an entire page!

It would also pleat REALLY well...and since it's already sticky, you don't have to apply adhesive first!

It's also really great in Mixed Media Art!!! Here's a sneaky peek of a canvas I've been working on...it really adds to the dimension of it! And it seems to take paint/modge podge really well...

Try this stuff!! You will LOVE it! I know I do!

CROP with us this weekend!!

Joni here...hoping everyone is having a great spring!! Prayers to those in the areas of the country effected by the crazy weather!

So, have you heard the news??....We're having a crop here at Memorable Seasons this weekend.. May 6-8th. If you hit the message board on Thursday 5/5, you may even find some of the challenges posted by then!! Hope you can join us for some inspiration and lots of fun!!

So I wanted to share my "pre-crop" warm-up challenge, which is also this week's regular weekly DT challenge. And I didn't want to overwelm you before the big crop, so I went "SOFT" on you!!!

Yep...the challenge is to go SOFT!! Whatever that means to you? You could go for a theme of "soft pillows" or just use "soft pom-poms" as an embellishment! Just get creative with your "SOFTNESS"..!

For me...SOFT means Pastel colors & Flowers... But since I primarily do BOY layouts this could be a stretch?.... Here's my layout!

Also, I wanted to share this week's Layout of the Week... this gorgeous layout is by Caroline (wascrapper) and I just love the grid design & the bright colors with those black & white photos!!

Hi! I'm Jenny Rickard. I am a North Carolinian and proud of it!!! I'm a mostly stay-at-home-mom to 3 boys...Harrison is 8, Nevan is 6, and Pierson is 4. One wonders how I ever get any scrapping done with three so close in age! Let's just say I LOVE bedtime! LOL! Once the house is quiet, that's my time to do my thing! Why am I "mostly" a SAHM? Because I am also a Group Fitness Instructor for 2 of our local YMCAs! This is definitely a job I NEVER thought I'd be doing!

I started scrapping in 2003 at a Creative Memories party and was instantly hooked! Of course, my style has evolved since then and is ever evolving. I'm currently obsessed with all the bright colors I'm seeing in a lot of the new lines...so fun!!

I love a good sketch, a good challenge, and a good competition...especially if it makes me step outside of my little box!

I'm so excited to be a Guest Designer here at Memorable Seasons! I hope I can inspire you this month!

Megan's DT Challenge: Circle Background on a card

This week's challenge is a really easy one! :) You have until the end of April to submit a project and you will be entered in the monthly drawing. Here is the thread you need to link your cards to when you are finished.

So here's my challenge:
Create a card with a circle background. You can create the circles from anything you'd like: stamps, pattern paper punched circles, etc. Just use your imagination!

Here's my card:

And here's how I created it:

I stamped a circle image stamp in pink ink on my card base. Then I stamped the same image with blue and green ink too. I punched out the image with various sized circle punches and layered them onto the pink image. I punched some of the circles smaller than their original size so that the stamped pink circles would be larger and frame them. This was an easy way to combine the three colors on the background.

Then I cut out a larger circle from pattern paper to frame my focal point and added a photo on top of that. My title is stamped with a small wooden alphabet stamp. I also added jewels to the centers of the circles.

Can't wait see what you all come up with for this challenge! :)

Using Decorative Paper for a Banner

From this months kit that Jill sent me I received these two wonderful decorative pieces of paper and wanted to do something different with them so I decided to cut them up and make a banner with them ...so I had my handy engineer husband divided them out for me ...(he tried to tell me how to do it but I just batted my eyes at him and he marked them for me)

So I cut both at the same time and then just trimmed the other piece a little smaller to fit inside the other one and then just punched holes at the top and made this cute little banner that is hanging in my scrap room ....

Then the cute little edge that I cut off the blue paper I made these sweet little flowers ....talk about using everything in your kit!!!

We will be highlighting one member and honoring her work for the month. Each DT will choose a page of her's to scraplift and show our example. Then you can choose one and scraplift it too. Good Monday morning paper crafters! I am honored and priviledged to be this month's guest designer for Memorable Seasons. I have told this to Jill before and so now I'll tell you...I love Memorable Seasons! Even if I am designing for other online stores or kit clubs I always make my purchases here at Memorable Seasons. The prices and customer service here cannot be beat. Seriously! Jill sent me the adorable State Fair collection from Studio Calico to play with. Last week we ended our Scrapbook Throwdown...7 weeks of fun challenges. The Random Winner selected from all those who completed the required number of layouts was KIMBERLY!!! Congrats Kimberly.... Also, each week's challenge also had a random winner, so this throwdown was full of fun!!!

Where do you find your inspiration? I love looking at photos, magazine ads, clothing colors/designs, and sketches for inspiration. This week we've had TONS of new layouts added to the gallery and there are so many inspiring creations there! Audrey was chosen as the Layout of the Week and I wanted to share her amazing layout here too...

There are also lots of new and inspiring products to be found in the Memorable Seasons store. Jill and Julie have been busy getting new things added as they arrive...I spotted some new 7 Gypsies products in the store this morning.

And the new Echo Park Playground collection was added earlier this week:

Happy Hour Sketch Challenge!!!

Here is the first sketch that I have made for you gals for the Happy Hour Challenge we are starting at 8pm centeral time and you get 1 1/2 hours for this challenge to use the sketch however you want ...turn it, flip it ....it is just a starting point for you to use if you want or go exactly how the sketch is .....and the other part of the challenge is to use the color "GREEN" or use something green or recycle on your page ....you need to get the page either photographed or scanned and loaded into the gallery to be entered into the prize drawing but you have until the end of the month to be in the race for the monthly challenges ....now get started!!!!

Well we have lots going on right now over at MS. So incase you have been a bit busy to hop on over the boards I thought I could recap it for you---maybe you are missing your mojo and need a swift kick the scrappy pants. Well girls we have got it for you!

First off we started a lil something new round here. We wanna honor our members and their work. So we have a member of the month. I got to be the first to choose and I chose Tracy-her and I have been loyal members here for ALONG time. In fact we only joined a month apart from one another. Okay so we picked somebody right-NOW WHAT???? Well the Dt's all chose one of her lo's and we lifted them. Well guess what if you do the same thing you will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate to the store-WHOOP WHOOP! No pressure now - you have til the end of the month to get it done----now how bout that for a kick in the scrappy pants-LOL!
Here's the lo I chose and to follow is my lift--I just couldnt resist that awesome title and the design of the page too.

Now also this week is Megans recipe for the Throwdown--easy peezy. Three photos, sanded edges and handwritten journaling. Now if you havent joined the Throwdown yet you still can cuz the most gracious Jill (aka Mrs Memorable Seasons) has a drawing each week for all the participants for that week-and yup you get a gift certificate to the store. Tomorrow there will be the last week for the Throwdown--your gonna love this one the best --be sure to check it out.

There are so many exciting things going on at Memorable Seasons right now!!

1) The store is popping with LOTS and LOTS of new CHA product coming in. And of course, Jill has the BEST prices around, so you better get over there and get yours before they are gone! Also in the store (although never there for long), are the fabulous SWEETS by Memorable Seasons that the very talented crocheter, Julie has been making. 2) Sneak Peeks of the March Kit are popping up and if you haven't seen them, then you better go check them out. Looks so good!!

Throwdown Challenge Week #4

Well its Tami here with ya this week---R U READY for my THROWDOWN???

Well for my throwdown I want you to think Baked Spaghetti. Its a great hearty meal and not alot of ingredients required--but oh the possibilities to make it different everytime!

So we need some meat, noodles and sauce right? Then is when the fun begins... Did you know that I have kids that wont eat spinach So guess what when I make baked spaghetti I put spinach in there-great way to get them some green vegetable--BTW zucchini works great too.

So here we go with my take

Main ingredient--meat sauce = one photo
other necessaties-- noodles = layering
spices (gotta fix that jar sauce up)= embellie cluster
unexpected veggie= a non scrapbook related item

So we have the one photo-check
lots of layering-check
embellie cluster-check
non scrappy item---see the yellow strip with the numbers and some staples, well those are the dry cleaner tags they put on my husbands pants and of course I save them

So here's your challenge ladies
one photo
layering---must have at least 5 pattern papers on your lo
embellie cluster-must be more than 3 items
non scrappy related item--only one is required

Throwdown Challenge Week #3

Here is my "Throwdown Challenge" to you ....you know my style is a little different so this will be a challenge for most of you ...you challenge is to have some White Space in your page ...as my main ingredient!!

Then the spices you need to add are:

Misting ( can splatter paint if you do not have mist)

Using a mask (can cut out anything to use as the mask or lay anything on you page to give you an outline of somthng for the design)

Doodling (can be as simple as lines or writing yout title with a pen or drawing a picture on your page)Just have fun and be creative on your page ...let the artist in you come out!!!

Here is my example ...I used this month Memorable Seasons kit that you can order every month ..I cut out a journaling block and then misted around it with two different colored mist, then doodled around them, doodled the white & black scalloped edge and then my "white space" is under the journaling blocks ...thanks for looking!!

You have until Thursday, February 24th at midnight to get your layout done for this challenge, loaded into the gallery and linked up here. If you do, your name will be entered in for a random prize drawing. The next throwdown will be up on Friday, February 25th.

It's my week to post here at Memorable Seasons and I also have the honor of choosing a layout of the week from Gallery entries at the Memorable Seasons forum. Yee Haw!

I always have so much fun looking through all the projects in the Gallery and I have to admit, it's even more fun when I get to choose a special layout to showcase at our LOTW thread in the forum too. This week is made extra special for me too since we are in the middle of our fantastic 2nd Annual Scrapbook Throwdown (you can get the "Lowdown on the Throwdown at this link right here), I won't be posting a challenge here at the blog this week.... SO, instead I have the honor of showcasing the Layout of the Week I selected right here at the Memorable Seasons blog. How cool is that?!

The layout is titled Santa Paws and it was created by Susan (susanahern). You can see it in the Memorable Seasons Gallery right here. But I also want to show it to you right here...

I was drawn to the clean, classic lines of this beautifully composed layout...and that machine stitching that frames the so darling photo of Molly is extra yummy! While Molly may not have enjoyed wearing her Santa hat... she sure is cute in it and this layout is a real winner in my book! I hope that you all have an opportunity to stop by the forum and leave Susan some love about her adorable layout!

The Scrapbook Throwdown Has Begun!!

Are you ready to Throwdown with the Memorable Seasons DT gang?! The first Throwdown Challenge has been issued! And it comes from yours truly.

Today I've cooked up one of my specialties and I hope you like it!

My main ingredient is a layout with clean lines, centered and balanced. And then I added my special seasonings that include: 3 matted photos in a row, lots of inked edges, and a punched border to taste!

And now your challenge is to go into your scrappy kitchens and work to re-create your version of my special entree. You will want to use the same main ingredient as well as the special seasonings that I used. But then you can show us what type of chef you are by adding in your own special seasonings to make it your own. Have fun with it and be sure to taste test it along the way!!

And just for fun: I've also added in some secret spices that I'm not at liberty to share! See if you can guess what those spices are and use them in your layouts too! I'll let you know if you got them right after you post your layout.

You have until Thursday, February 10th at midnight to get your layout done for this challenge, loaded into the gallery and linked up here. If you do, your name will be entered in for a random prize drawing. The next throwdown will be up on Friday, February 11th.

Megan's DT challenge: Cook it from scratch

In honor of our upcoming Scrapbook Throwdown in February, I wanted to issue my challenge for this week: to cook up some embellishments from scratch and add them in 3 places on your layout.

On this layout, I used some plain square canvas stickers that I stamped the orange rays onto. Then I edged the sticker with some green ink and layered my stickers on top.I used the same technique to create the title block, the journaling block (with vellum over the canvas so I could write on it), and the accent block. I also customized my stickers for the word country: they were plain white cardstock, and I added some woodgrain stamping to them and coated them with two colors of ink (green and brown) to spice up the colors a little more.

The very talented Design Team Chefs will issue you a weekly "recipe" challenge to inspire you to create a dish of your own which will be taste tested. Get ready to cook up your best work yet. Challenges, Challenges, and more Challenges!

We just came off our first Online Crop Weekend where there were 12 creative and inspiring challenges presented by the Design Team with a theme of Numbers and Months of the year. But do not fear that you have missed out! These challenges do not have a deadline until Sunday, the 16th at midnight! So you still have time! Check out the challenges here: Master Challenge List

Also, our weekly challenges by the Design Team are still going on. These challenges are due by January 31st. For every challenge you participate in, your name gets thrown into the random drawing for a Gift Certificate to the Store! Today, I issued the one for this week. Here it is:

Since we are coming off of our Number Crop weekend, I wanted to stay on the same lines. Do you remember the fabulous challenge blog of a few years ago, One Little Word? They issued challenges in which you were given a specific word and had to use it in your title. It was such a great way to inspire layouts that you might not have thought of before. Ali Edwards also has a project in which she picks one word and then uses as her inspiration for the entire new year. My challenge to you is to pick a word for yourself. Think about this for a while. You may even want to check out Ali's list of words on her blog if you need some ideas. Then create a layout using that ONE LITTLE WORD as your main title. You are allowed to use a subtitle if you wish.

For my layout, I chose the word "Roll". I know, not a very profound word, but it is a great word to describe the way I want the 2011 year to be for me. I want to be able to "roll" with the punches that life throws at us. I want to be able to "roll" through each day in a way that I teach my kids what they need to know to be moral and caring citizens of this country. I want to better let some things "roll" off my back, some things that just aren't worth worrying about. So that's a few of my reasons for choosing the word, Roll. Now I let my layout take on a more relaxed and fun sense of the word, since the picture is of my kids with their Alabama shirts on and we cheer Roll Tide! So it's ok to have fun with your word as I did here:

Everyone needs a little "Round TUIT", especially after the holidays and you can get one of your very own right here! Once you have it... you won't have any reason not to join us at the Memorable Seasons forum for the "Round TUIT" challenge.

Here are the details of the challenge...

Almost all of us have them… that group of photographs that we’ve been meaning to scrapbook but just haven’t gotten “Round Tuit”. You probably have a variety of reasons you haven’t scrapped those photographs yet, perhaps you haven’t found the right paper, embellishments, you lack inspiration or just haven’t found the time. Whatever the reason, close your eyes (no peeking!) and pull out one photograph (or more if you are exceptionally brave) from the pile. Consider this the moment you finally got “Round TUIT” and scrap that photo(s). Then choose at least two of the following additions:

1. On your layout, journal about the reasons why you haven’t gotten around to scrapbooking this photograph yet.
2. Use the “Round TUIT” graphic (right click on the graphic above to save to your computer) somewhere on your page.
3. Use the words “Procrastinate” or “Round TUIT in your title.
4. Use at least two different color cardstocks or patterned papers on your page.
5. Use products on your layout that are at least six months old, that you haven’t gotten around to using before now.

To complete this challenge, I first started by sticking my hand in a ziplock bag of photographs I had waiting at the ready to scrapbook (but hadn't yet, because I didn't have my "Round TUIT" yet!). I also decided to take on all the additions to this challenge by writing the journal piece about why I hadn't yet scrapped the photo (before now), used the "Round TUIT" graphic, added more than two different patterned papers which also happened to be papers that I've had since this past spring but just hadn't gotten around to using them yet. You can buy them right here at the Memorable Seasons online store! (tip: see the complete supplies list at the bottom of this post that I used to create this layout, I've included links to the Memorable Seasons store to help find the supplies you need to create your own layout.)

I also incorporated Plaid (Mod Podge Sparkle and Pop Dots).

Both of these photos (above and below) provide a better look at the flower embellishments I created using Mod Podge Sparkle. See all that pretty glitter? I have to tell you that I have never gotten along so well with glitter until I used in this form! Plaid created a real winner with this product! Below, I'll show you how to make these easy layered flowers in five steps.

I created the flourish that you see in the above photograph using my Cricut and the Accent Essentials cartridge. I also used my Cuttlebug to add the embossing on the leaves, I love how it provides subtle dimension to the project.

Here is how I created these simple glitter flowers with patterned paper and Mod Podge in five easy steps...

Step One: Die Cut various flower shapes to create multi-layered flowers. I used Sizzix Flower Layers and Beautiful Blooms Die Cuts from Papertrey Ink. "Paint" each flower front with Mod Podge "Sparkle" and let dry.

Step Two: Carefully crumple up each flower layer to create texture and then smooth back out for layering.

Step Three: Assemble layers using Pop Dots.

Step Four: Add rhinestones to the top of each flower layer.

Step Five: Die cut and emboss leaves (I used my Cuttlebug) and attach to flowers when you assemble your project.

Megan's DT challenge: Making Your List and Checking it Twice

If you are anything like me, you like to make lists to keep everything organized. With Christmas coming up next week, I've been checking my list several times a day so I don't forget anything that needed to be done.

One of the items on my list was to put together some teacher gifts. Between both of my kids, I have 13 teacher gifts to prepare. That could quickly get pretty pricey, so I came up with a fun idea that also helps to quickly cross the teacher gifts off my list!

I am giving the teachers a decorated brown gift bag filled with a dinner that is quick and easy to fix: spaghetti noodles, spaghetti sauce, green beans and a package of brownie mix. All they need to do is add bread and meat to the sauce and they will have an instant meal ready for their family. Because, let's face it, our schedules get busy during this season, and who doesn't like an easy meal you didn't have to plan out? :)

I included the brownie mix directions and a card that explains the purpose behind the gift:
"This time of the year is always so busy,
and we wanted to bless you with a dinner that’s easy
so you can spend more time with your family.
Thanks for all you do and enjoy!"

My challenge for you this week is to create a customized gift for someone on your list. It can be store bought and decorated with a card to match, or you can do a hybrid gift...partly store-bought, partly homemade. Just remember to keep it easy so you have more time to mark off other things on your to-do list! :)

Sketch Artist this Month!!!!

This is my friend Susan Stringfellow and I just love using her sketches ....she is very talented and you can see her work in many different scrapbooking or card making magazines .....here is her bio .....
I think I have been scrapbooking since about 1997. I have been writing and designing in this industry since 2002. Recently I have been involved in product development and design. Before I started working in this industry, I enjoyed cross stitching, quilting, and crochet, so I often have stitching and textiles in my projects. My style has changed dramatically as trends have changed and I am always looking for fun new techniques to try in my projects. I totally LOVE patterned paper! I am not the best at clean graphic designs, I tend to lean more toward the layered and embellished styles such as a shabby or boutique look and I really love participating in challenges. All of this has led me to designing sketches that incorporate my style.

December... it IS almost here!

Where did October go? And November for that matter? How are we already on the eve of December? Well... we are and this December 1st is a bittersweet blogpost for me! I, like Detta decided it was time to step away from the MSDT. Working with Jill, and the various team members over the years has been great fun, and their creativity is beyond inspiring. You all know Jill as a great store owner, but she is also a great boss, and friend. I am blessed for the time with her and MS. Thank you Jill!!!

Now, onto this whole its already December freak out moment I am having! As you look at your calendar remember a few things...

1. If your December Daily makes you crazy, put it aside, and just write down a memory from each day, then go make it in January while you eat leftover cookies. Me, I like crazy, so in a fit of freakish scrapping I put mine together yesterday. We'll see how this goes...
2. If you cherish hand made gifts, but know your aunt throws them out, stop. Stop making aunty a handmade gift and get her a gift card. Save yourself time, hurt feelings, and crafty bitterness. :)
3. Make at least one card, layout, or crafty bit of something this month that is not Christmas themed. I know, crazy talk. BUT... maybe making that layout about the beach will be just the vacation you need from the busyness!
4. Above all... stop. Take time to enjoy your family, and do something fun,meaningful, and memory worthy.

Merry Christmas to all, it has been a great ride, and I am ever thankful for Jill, MS and each of you! Your new DT crew is AMAZING too... get ready for them to rock your socks off this year!!

Farewell but not goodbye

I thought I'd use my last blog post to say thank you. Thank you for being such a great group of crafters. Thank you for being such supportive friends. Thank you for making my stint as Design Team Member and Coordinator such a pleasant, enjoyable experience. The last two years have been both fun and stressful. I loved every minute of trying to make this site an enjoyable and educational; experience every time you visit. It was also stressful in that I worried I wasn't doing enough, sometimes. However, I have been very fortunate to have led a great group of ladies on the Design Team who have helped me out tremendously. Jill has been the most generous and thoughtful "boss" I could have ever hoped for. I was very fortunate to have met her in person and found her as gracious and sweet as she is on line. I promise you would love her if you met her, too.

So, it is a bittersweet thing to say farewell to this gig. I will continue to be an active member of this site because this is my scrapbooking home. However, I have just gotten really busy with work and grandkids and even occasional photography jobs that people actually want to pay me for! That last part still surprises me. haha. I have passed the baton to Telah and I know that she will do a terrific job keeping things running smoothly around here. The new Design Team looks great and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing what they come up with. I love you all dearly.

Weekly DT Challenge--Creating a grid on your layout

It's Tuesday and time for another weekly DT challenge!

Sometimes I just like to create a layout with lots of photos and one of the quickest ways to do that is to create a grid on your layout base, then add your page elements in the spaces of the grid.

Here's my layout:

I created a grid with the Tim Holtz Tissue Tape, to give some structure to my layout. The grid on this page reminds me of a present, so I added a red ribbon with a button center.

The other areas that were left on my page were the bottom for my title and the top is where I added some tags with journaling and another photo I wanted to add, but since it was a little blurry, I decided to hide it in the pocket. To create the pocket, I simply added adhesive to the sides and bottom of the photo and the tags slid in nicely behind the photo.

My challenge for you this week is to create a grid on your layout--you can use pen lines, ribbon, paper, etc. Just use your imagination and see what you can come up with!

Doily flower

I bring to you a new flower tutorial. I went to a class at a local craft store a couple of weeks ago and made this really cool wreath with lots of hand made flowers on it.

Can you see the yellow ones? Those were made from doilies and I'm going to show you how to do it. It is really simple.

Start with a paper doilie, an inkpad, a button, glue dots and a small rubberband.

crumple it up in your hand into a little ball and then smooth it back out.

blot ink onto the doilie using a sponge or an ink dauber. Do not rub it because the edges of the doily are delicate and will tear.

Turn it upside down. Put a glue dot in the middle and place a button there. The color of the button does not matter because it won't show. This is your chance to use your ugly buttons!

Pinch the doily around the button and wrap the rubber band around it to hold it.

Then spread your flower out gently and use on your product. So easy!

Home Mini Album Prompt: Favorite Room

Good morning! I don't know if it feels like Fall where you live, but is sure does here and I'm loving it! We are now in week 5 of our Home mini album journey. If you have been following along, you should have enough pages done now to really make your mini album look great! And if you haven't started one yet, why not join in? These mini's will make great keepsakes for years to come.

This week, my prompt is for you to document that favorite room in your house. It may be the room that you love to spend time alone in. Or maybe the one place where everyone gathers and wonderful conversations fill the air. Maybe you want to remember the evenings spent on your porch with that special someone.

For me, I chose to remember our bedroom. A few years ago, we decided to buy new bedroom furniture and make it the one room that didn't have crayon marks on the walls or spills on the carpet. We wanted a room that we could spend time in and feel relaxed and at ease. We love our bedroom now (although the crayons still seemed to sneak their way in)! And even though it is our sanctuary away from the everyday chaos, the children still feel welcome. There are fun times when they all crawl into bed with us for a movie together. It is also where they come in the middle of the night after having a bad dream. The door is ALWAYS open to them and I think that is one of the reasons why this room is so special to me.

Week #3 Home Challenge: Around Your Home

My challenge for you this week is right outside your door ....look around either the outside of your house, or take a picture really right outside your door ....or right inside your door ....what do things look like around you!!!!
